The Grazer, Plein Air Landscapes, Season 1
I started painting en plein air (French term for painting outdoors) in 2017. Even as I select a place to paint and set up my easel I can see that the light is changing, the clouds are moving, the weather is adjusting and the scene alters. It pushes an artist to work fast to capture a moment or feeling. I like chasing those moments.
The Grazer was painted right in my neighborhood. This cow and friends met me at the fence every day when I walked my dog. It seemed only fitting to paint them.
The original is 8×8″ acrylic on board. It is in a gallery in Woodstock, Vermont. Please email me to if you’d like me to paint a similar cow for you.
