Murmuration
I created this installation for the Scaffolding Exhibit at the AVA Gallery in Lebanon, New Hampshire in January 2025. The piece is flax, wire mesh, wood, copper wire and monofilament. It measured about 40” wide by 6 feet high.
Scaffolding implies straight lines. But I contend that all living things hang upon a scaffolding-we are flesh, muscle and tissue stretched over our bones, a bird is feathered over an armature of scaffolding and a forest is the most ingeniously scaffolded structure of all, cloaked in bark and leaf, supported by roots. Roots under our feet create a scaffold to be dressed in rock, soil and mineral. In the sea, shells enclose a scaffold of curling and twisting forms, a home for living creatures.
